RESEARCH; Andrew Goodwin

Andrew Goodwin is a person that stated pop video differ from movies and film videos.
He was saying that pop videos use singers both as narrators and a characters, singers look directly at the camera, and music videos are made around the songs and not in a other way.

Pop videos rely on repetition and all of them have form of closure/ending. This is clearly reflected in a song.

Three main types of visualization of music videos by ANdrew Goodwin:

  • Illustration

  • Amplification

  • Disjuncture

Example for Illustration could be Tonight's the Kind of Night by Noah and the Whale
Finding a good music video with illustration is very rare, and normally artists try not to make them as it's difficult to create.

If You Ever Comeback by The Script   is a example of amplification. Artist illustrates the song but it has nothing to do with lyrics...

A good example of disjunction is Jessie J with Nobody's perfect. Video doesn't have anything in common with lyrics, MES is completely random but also unique.
