At today's lesson I discovered that artist usually have a picture of themselves on their first album. I think it's good for many reasons: it shows the audience who the artist/band is and creates the image for them. Few years back, when people were buying CD's and didn't use internet it was good to know who we're actually listening to, I guess that carried on and until now artists usually have them on the front cover.
