Metal:
Their fonts are in some form symbols. Metallica's font is so popular and recognizable, almost everyone can spot it. No matter on which album of theirs you will choose, there will always be the same logo.
Colours: White, black, red.
CD covers have mostly creepy caricatures/drawings, with darkness surrounding, showing anger.
Pop:
No real pattern, disco or classy.
Colours: the same thing, either very bright and striking or calm-ish.
Background: Both are Black&white, showing clearly their faces and try to look attractive.
Indie:
Font: Sans serif font taking about half a space of CD cover. Letters "O" and "C" have different fonts to attract attention to background inside (Two "O"'s are circles around cat's eyes).
Colours: White
Background: Black and white, except for the cat eye's which are green.
Hip hop/rap:
Font: Big and clear font, no pattern.
Colours: Both of them are colourful, however Eminem's letters are much brighter and similar to ones used in comic books. However, Jay-Z's letters are transited with the background.
Background: Both of them try to look attractive, showing whole body and faces. Jay-Z tries to look "like a boss" with city in background, where Eminem is sitting on money with a Pop art style background.
